The Youngest Cowboy with the Biggest Heart Helps Raise Awareness
Duke Mundorf is just four years old, but he's already had an outsized influence teaching others what it means to be strong and fearless. In fact, his journey is so inspiring, he was featured on the The Cowboy Channel #Daysof76 Rodeo in Deadwood!
Before coming home with his parents, Duke spent the first five months of his life undergoing multiple surgeries to correct Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). February 7th marks the start of CHD Awareness week. The most common type of birth defect, CHDs affect approximately 1 in every 100 births. Once a grim diagnosis, CHD is now a condition, that for many, can be managed into adulthood.
Today, Duke is thriving in a way made possible only by decades of hard-fought advancements and the incredible care of his team at Texas Children’s Hospital. Following in the family footsteps, Duke loves spending a few days each summer helping sort, feed, and care for Grandpa’s rodeo livestock. Duke's triumphant spirit and love of rodeo were part of the feature story on The Cowboy Channel, where Duke’s grandparents and parents were able to share more about Duke's journey and the Mundorf family’s roots in the rodeo community.
Special thanks to broadcaster Katy Lucas and the feature sponsor Community Coffee Company.
